PM Najib has made the biggest blunder of his life; something that I and most people would not want to believe nor hear what he has said during his recent by-election campaign in Sibu. I wouldn’t want to watch the video of him campaigning again, because I believe that what he did was all wrong. I am surprised that he had the audacity to utter ‘child like promises’ to the people of Sibu. Isn’t the manner the promises were made a form of corruption? If it was not, then what do you call it? It is just like saying, “I give you this million ringgit contract, and you give back 500 thousand in kickback”.
We have had five PMs before Najib, and as far as I can recall, none had campaigned the way that Najib did. I think, the honorable Tun Abdul Razak would the first person to criticized Najib, and I do not know what the others would say. Tun Dr. Mahathir and Tun Abdullah has so far refrained themselves from commenting, and could it be that they are in agreement with what Najib had done? Silence does indicate agreement.
I want to be honest that I once admired Najib, for I like his simplicity, caring, approachable and mild mannered nature. I first met him when he was the Menteri Besar of Pahang, when I was then the Chief of Staff of HQ 4 Brigade back in the early 80’s. Having to attend several state meetings in which he presided, and despite his youth, I still appreciated his maturity at the way he conducts the meeting. He was then in his late 20’s, and I was nearing 40 then.
The last time I met Najib was when he flew in to visit the Malaysian troops serving in Cambodia in 1992. I attended dinner with him in Cambodiana Hotel that night, and in attendance was PERNAMA Chairman, retired Gen Tan Sri Hashim Ali. We talked among others, the quantum of UN allowances that each soldier was to receive, and Gen Tan Sri Hashim Ali supported my view that the UN allowances must be paid in full to each soldier, without any deduction. Gen Tan Sri Hashim Ali was making reference to the deduction made by the government upon the UN allowances paid to our soldiers serving in the Congo then. Najib must have heeded the argument made by Gen Tan Sri Hashim Ali and upon his return to Kuala Lumpur; he announced that soldiers serving with the UN in Cambodia shall receive their UN allowances in full. That announcement fulfilled the promise that I made to my soldiers at a parade in Majidee Camp, Johore Baru, prior to our departure to Cambodia when I said that, “ if I were to receive 1 ringgit, you all too will receive 1 ringgit”.
Now that Najib is the PM, he has changed somewhat in his tone and language. The language that he had used in Sibu, appears like he is so desperate in wanting to win, and is willing to disregard decency and good campaigning ethics. He was at his best trying to dangle a carrot to his audience that eventually was thrown back at him. I would say that the BN could have won if Najib had used his own personal strength i.e. his good-natured character. He did not employ such demeaning tactics during the 12th GE. Najib has now to swallow his pride and accept a portion of blame for BN’s lost, and not just simply say that the Sarawak BN campaign machinery was not up to the mark. He should have been more direct by saying that the Sarawak Chief Minister, who has been at the helm of the state government for more than two decades, should assume full responsibility for the loss, and not to remain mute and oblivious to the issues affecting Sibu.
Losing Sibu, a former stronghold of the BN is a bitter lesson for Najib’s administration. If the lost of Sibu is to serve as a wake-up call for the up-coming Sarawak state election and the 13th GE, then the BN had better watch out. Losing Sarawak would mean losing the political grip of the Federal government and with that ends BN’s political dominance over the whole nation.
Dangling the carrot is no longer an assured method used to appease the voters, especially the Chinese in Sarawak. It may still be applicable here in the peninsular because the Chinese in Sarawak and the Chinese in the peninsular are two different people. The BN could use such campaigning methods successfully with the Ibans, just like the way the BN did with the Malays and Indians voters during the Hulu Selangor by-election.
My appeal to Najib is please change your campaigning methods to something more honorable and decent. Stop this carrot dangling method as it is nothing more than corruption. What you have done is to encourage more corruption, and it does not surprise me now that this country will one day end up like Zimbabwe. Besides, you have also given sufficient ammunition to the opposition to ridicule you in the next GE.

WHISPER WORDS OF WISDOM LET IT BE!
THE BEATLES...IN THE 60's
Sir,
ReplyDeleteSaying Najib's campaigning method is flawed is too mild (to me that's unacceptable to anyone who profess justice and equality for all). I would rather have you said that it was down right criminal. And that is the truth.
There's no way of trying to soften or spin the facts. What he did was bribery and corruption compounded with the intention to misuse the state treasury! (It's government money, not his! In the video he clearly (and wrongly) state his ownership of state funds).
I think the biggest problem (or sickness, whichever we think is apt) with Malaysian is our unwillingness or failure to call "a spade is a spade" so to speak. We quickly try to give the benefit of the doubt to those unworthy of it (our government, civil service, judiciary and law enforcement). Why I said those branches of Malaysian state as unworthy? It's simply because we cannot afford to give them the benefit of the doubt LEST we lose control of them thus our state and government. If we gave them a loose rein, they would surely ran amok and put us, the people in jeopardy and worse of all, mortal harm (fatal shooting, unlawful detention and torture, abuse of human right and violation of civil liberty and the constitution). Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts ABSOLUTELY!
The government and it's branches must be kept on a VERY tight rein by the people. THE PEOPLE SHOULD NOT BE AFRAID OF THEIR GOVERNMENT! THE GOVERNMENT INSTEAD SHOULD BE AFRAID OF THEIR PEOPLE! Hopefully with Sibu "Buy (but no seller)" election, Malaysian are beginning to rise and become more critical and firm in their expectation of the conduct and function of the government. The people own the government and more over the people owes 'the government of the day', NOTHING WHATSOEVER!
Good Day and Salam, sir.
Nick.
Datuk and Gentlemen, i think there in no sincerity in the UNMO and the ruling Party. During the UNMO GA everyone going around shouting going to bath their KRIS with Chinese Blood, calling the Malaysia born Chinese and Malaysia born Indians as PENDATANG. And when any election comes promising them goodies and licking their A**. Dont you think these people has any feelings. kat Ulu Selangor boleh lah. Even in US the Chinese rejected BN. Jangan cakap pasal itu Malaysia born Indians lah, it is survival for them.
ReplyDeleteIf you ask me, personally i think BN is the best ruling Govt if there is no corruption and racist politician in BN.
MAWAR TERJUN
BE PROUD,
STAY AIRBORNE....
Dato'
ReplyDeleteIt was definitely flawed and disgusting. Will Malaysians continue to tolerate this kind of leadership?
Next GE will give the answer, so wake up all Malaysians as we need quality leaders not someone who survive on his father or grandfather legacy!!!
Are we going to allow the nation to be another Zimbabwe sir?
Shameful if you are to watch the video clip, when a PM of a nation with a low quality campaigning material-really no class of a leader. No wonder the nation is having all round mediocre!!!
How can the BN be not RACISTS...it was tailored made to be such
ReplyDeleteAs for my buddy Mawar From Rimba...its a done deal....we have gave them 53 years to rule
They screwed it all up BIG TIME
Sorry, there is no second chance
otherwise we are doubly DOOMED !
Read what Chua Soi Lek said to Najib, that the Chinese no longer go for the "largesse". Soi Lek was so brave to give that kind slap in Najib's face because he knew this government would not be as brave as him to take the challenge and withdraw the "largesse" from the Chinese, Why? Because the retraction will work like a disintegrated space ship re-entering earth atmosphere where the Malay counterparts would suffer the greater consequences than the Chinese would. Those Malays' "AliBabas and Sleeping Partners" in Chinese business entities would certainly suffer. Dare this government take that step? That's why Soi Lek said Ibrahim Ali is not the PM!!
ReplyDeletedato,
ReplyDelete,,,i will relate you and incident at KLIA late last year while at the smokers room i came across 3 x guys, they were going across to S'wak to survey the military camps for relocation in preparation of the GE 13. The team leader is from Putrajaya plus 1 x surveyor and 1 x civil engineer. After getting to know that am an ex-service officer, this team leader fellow started telling me about his special mission and that we servicemen are their 'black horse' in winning the critical seats etc which apparently is, all these while. Again initially, i thought nothing much of it but looking back at the Sibu election, this military camp relocation strategy might just be it for BN to retain their seats.
,,,am not against any body but will vote for clean, honest individuals from any side of the camp. We have to just educate our servicemen for their fair voting rights !.
,,,UMNO/BN has not proven themselves within the time frame given to-date, so lets look at new candidates to lead the nation. The opposition must also come up with such God fearing candidates-lah. We have seen enough of money politics and poor leadership with the present line-up.
,,,enough is enough, am sick of what is happening to the nation. Guess am not alone ?. Hate to see our beautiful nation being perished away by these corrupted characters. The rakyat must put a stop to all these crazy nonsense in the next GE 13.
Najib actually insulted and humuliated the chinese by doing that.
ReplyDeletejangan risau next GE, the people of Sarawak will dangle Najib as the carrot.
without the 30+ parliamentary seats, he would NOT be shortest serving PM of Malaysia.
Dear Dato'
ReplyDeleteIt seems the comparison of Malaysia to Zimbabwe is the in thing. It will be no surprise if Malaysia does later. But I think it will be a Somalia before that.
It is obvious and the intention is so clear of corruption done. This is not the way speech be delivered , but Allah is so great to let people know. What you choose now ....is what Allah Almighty knew.
ReplyDeleteDato' Arshad,
ReplyDeleteI support your comment that Tun Razak would be ashamed to see his son stooped so low in order to win votes, and the outcome has proven it. During the last GE he was downright disappointing when he campaigned for the KL Parliamentary constituency. His performance so far is nothing much to shout about and woe betide the country if he continues the way he did in Sibu.
dear dato,
ReplyDelete,,,these children of Dewarajas i.e UMNOputras never grew up as a normal malaysian kid, they were all golden spoon fed as such don't know the real feelings of the rakyat. They think money can buy us out ! eerrmm guess now they know better ?.
,,,its about time too !. but these kind of individuals never learn.
It has very little to do with the campaigning method. I think the people are just fed up.
ReplyDeleteThay can lie to most of the people most of the time but they can't lie to them all the time.
The result speaks for itself.

ReplyDeleteeven there is no more insurgency but who should maintained the law and order. so if all the army personnel, the police and security people all on leave and go to the poll station on that day so who is going to take care...YOU !!!!!! or leave it to the security company to do that task, yang pekerjanya from nepal dan orang asing." jangan la meludah ke langit nanti hinggap ke muka sendiri...if you are ex-serviceman.so when to express your views use your whole knowledge la and not to burst like 84mm carl gustav.
before this i think there is an argument on the IGP say 'i will pull off my people out of the street' you were so angry and now you agreed that the security personnel and police force be on leave on the polling date. so if anything happen who is going to answerable..YOU !!!!!
so which is which now, or are you the person who just act as a middle men to see the argument in this blog...or you have some hidden agenda.
Salam Dato'
ReplyDeleteYou described najib as " a good-natured character " ?
My god, are saying it to the wall ?
May be Ziana Zain told you !
Sibu Elections!!
ReplyDeleteTried to manipulate the Postal Votes but the UMNOputras got screwed!!
They have manipulated the Postal Votes in ALL ELECTIONS but this time round it was not enough to be manipulated!!
DO WE STILL NEED POSTAL VOTES!!
WHAT WAR OR INSURGENCY ARE WE IN!!
I DONT NEED TO REPEAT WHAT KOMANDO HAS MENTIONED ON THE THE MANIPULATION OF POSTAL VOTES!!
ya la,
ReplyDeletebagi you semuanya tak betul itu salah ini salah, kalau betul sangat buka la satu parti politik dan berjuang untuk menegakkan keadilan yang dipertikaikan sangat..ada berani ke !!!!. Semua yang orang buat you kata salah..macam la you betul sangat. SPR lambat pembangkang menang pun you salahkan SPR , SPR lambat BN menang pun you kata SPR salah. SPR cepat PEMBANGKANG menang you hooray !!! SPR cepat BN menang you kata SPR salah..so who are you actually. Sudahlah jangan nak menyalahkan orang lain cermin diri sendiri la." Telunjuk lurus, kelingking berkait", Mengata orang paku serpih , mengata orang dia yang lebih'. Ambilalih lah jawatan Pengerusi SPR dan baru tahu siapa yang benar dan siapa yang salah.
were you there to witness what actually happen or just a hearsay evidence. if you dont see by yourself, stop telling lies, and if you really see the situation buat la report on misadminister, jangan dengar cakap-cakap kosong lepas tu spread the news.
contoh la: masa masuk hutan operasi, berjalan waktu malam single file 30 orang satu pelatun, pelatun komander bagitahu didepan ada batu besar lepas itu message pass ke belakang, sampai orang no.20 sudah jadi HANTU bukan BATU lagi jadi orang no.21 sehingga ke 30 cabut lari menyorok takukan hantu.Contoh saja.
as for komando did mentioned for 53 years the present government has rule the country and they screwed up..no you are totally wrong. i dont have to elaborate it.
"LU PIKIR LA SENDIRI"
dear dato,
ReplyDelete,,,o.k. now lets see what the DAP guy can deliver for/from Sibu for the Rakyat pula-lah. Winning is one thing and a given now, can he prove his worth ?.
,,,Najib is a gone case after his major screw-up there !. He properly needs a tronado spin doc. to reset his image by now !. Adoi sakit!!. Hate to suggest anything here that might sound too rash cos. in life and living it has both windfalls and misfortunes, unfortunately the poor rakyat will still suffer no matter what, not unless this guy is finally removed from his chair soonest. Well, we are moving towards that direction it would seem.
"remove the root cause its effect will be seen immediately in this case"
Dato
ReplyDeleteI've no respect for PM Najib. It's because in the 80s he told the crowd to soak the keris with the Chinese blood. Till today, I still remember his racist statement. I wish we've leaders that truly represent Malaysian of different skin color.
Salam
Capt
ReplyDeleteThe DAP guy can't do anything after winning the Sibu state seat. What can he do if the opposition hold so few state seat? He can never help Sibu as long as BN remain the state government.
I've never been to Sabah or Sarawak but my friend from Sabah told me that my hometown hospital is much bigger that Kota Kinabalu hospital. This proved that Sabah is not treated fairly by the federal government. We, Semanjung folks, definitely rob Sabah and Sarawak money to enrich ourselves.
We owe too much to them. Also, we allowed the huge influx of immigrants from Philippine and Indonesia to ensure a huge voting bank for the BN government. Is that fair to Sabahan?

dear Malaysian,
ReplyDelete,,,in fact, i find it bloody hard to trust any malaysian politicians nowadays except the very few !. Most are like snakes, they shed their skin regularly.
,,,time is passing and the world changing yet our bloody politicians can't wake-up to its reality !. Our country has gone obsolute, good for the scrap yard with these kind of poor leadership. We have as a nation fallen behind, because others are moving forward fast. The business of life and living is to go forward. Why the stagnation ? It takes courage to change too. BUT i don't see any of it from our present so called leaders. Guess many fear for change, they are too complacent to move and they dislike uncertainty.
,,,what a bloody shame, this was a great country now badly mismanaged.
,,,to all the bloody politicians, your altruism will only reach a high plane when you really care for others outweighs your concern for yourself-lah. FAHAM TAK?. INI MASIH INGAT INDIVIDUAL SURVIVAL SAJA, TAK HABIS HABIS.
Malaysian,
ReplyDeleteYour feeling of helplessness must not take the better of you to give up your fighting spirit from fighting against the superior enemy just because you are inferior. By not giving up, by keep on fighting when we are inferior to the enemy, is already a force our enemy has to reckon with, what more if we can equalize the enemy? Don't have to wait till we are as superior as our enemy, we can match them with superior tactics. Don't worry about what the superior tactics are, just have faith in your fight, no superior enemy is invincible from the truth.
Sdr Malaysian,
dear dato,
ReplyDeletei am wondering la , how our system works..for example if our minister make certain remarks or any mistakes, i never heard that they been called to stand infront of DYMM SPB Yang DiPertuan Agong and the get scolding or letter of warning from DYMM SPB Yang DiPertuan Agong, DYMM SPB Yang DiPertuan Agong is the Head of the Country right. Example when we were in the army if we made mistake, will be call infront of the CO and received the warning and if big offence maybe it will go for Court Martial and so on.
And one more thing i really hate when the ministers giving press conference 'tak kira tempat' so all the time the press have to chase them where ever they go for news.
So what type of system that we have and how this happen and for what " sampaikan nak pergi ke bilik air pun press dan menunggu kat luar, very disgusting la to see this.
why can't they have a press conference once a week or once a month at their ministry and written statement and answer after the press conference and give the sign statement to the press co-sign by witness. why cant they do that.
another thing what is the job of ministry press secretary doing in each ministry, they supposed to coordinate the press conference not the press personnel chasing the minister or deputy minister every where and that is why sometime the deputy minister comes out with a statement and the minister comes out with different statement. Your comment Dato' and others.
Tt is pretty obvious that the BN is swimming against the current in urban areas. If they continue with this senseless pursuit, they can only hope to retain their seats in rural areas where the voters are more 'gullible' ( to read 'less educated')
ReplyDeleteI wonder how long is the ruling party going to employ the carrot approach. Surely by now they know that it is simply not working.
PM Najib, 'pork barrel' politics just does not apply in this day and age. Why dont you stick to the 1Malaysia approach ( to give us an authentic Malaysian identity), dismantle the feudalistic structure of the government machinery/system ( to make it more egalitarian in style and outlook)and finally give us more democracy. This, in a nutshell, is your political salvation.
We know it is a tall order and unlikely to be achieved in one lifetime. But if you start now, there will something substantive for us to look forward to in the future.
