IS UMNO/BN SCRAPPING THE BOTTOM IN THE CHOICE OF A CANDIDATE?

Can't UMNO/BN find a 'cleaner candidate' than Rohaizat Othman for the Permatang Pasir by-election? Or is Rohaizat the best among the worse? In consideration of his past tarnished record as a lawyer, Rohaizat's nomination as UMNO/BN's candidate is indeed troubling. He is reported to have misappropriated money belonging to Koperasi Pekebun Getah amounting to RM140,000, and for this he was struck of the rolls of the Malaysian Bar. But UMNO/BN thinks differently; that such an offence is trivial and mind you, the offence is one of criminal breach of trust. I wonder why was he not charged in court, or was it because he had returned the money and hence pardoned for the offence?

It is troubling indeed because UMNO/BN seems to think that the offence that Rohaizat had committed can just be ignored. But one has to remember that we are looking at a leader in the making, and if despite his tarnished past, fits in the bill of a leader, than I say that Rohaizat's nomination is wrong. I seriously do not know what are the criterion or traits used by UMNO to elect a leader, but certainly Rohaizat's offence smacks off dishonesty and a lack of personal integrity. And little wonder UMNO has found it difficult to eradicate money politics cum corruption in the previous party elections, where we even saw those leaders who were found guilty of money politics were still appointed leaders; tarnished leaders to be more appropriate.

I am quite sure Rohaizat will be a target of ridicule by the opposition during the campaigning and there is nothing that UMNO/BN can do to deflect such ridiculing. And why allow the opposition the opportunity to mock and ridicule Rohaizat in the first instant? And going by UMNO Youth leader Khairy's criterion that Rohaizat being a local boy, young, educated and experience can draw the young electorates to UMNO/BN and to ensure a win in the by-election is far from the truth and a fallacy. To me, UMNO/BN has not learnt the lessons of the Kuala Trengganu by-elections where they claimed that their candidate was the best choice given his supposedly popularity, youth, educated and experience in government, but yet he lost miserably. Whereas for the opposition, fielding a fish trader during the Manek Urai by-elections can still ensure them a win, though marginally.

The upcoming Permatang Pasir by-election has given UMNO/BN the opportunity to cleanse itself of the perception that the party is filled with corrupt leaders. Fielding Rohaizat will only strengthened the belief that UMNO/BN is indeed corrupt and is unable to eradicate the scourge of corruption.

I do not wish to predict who wins and who losses in the Permatang Pasir by-elections, but suffice for me to say that given its poor choice of a candidate, UMNO/BN will find it difficult to clinch a clear win in this by-election.

Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, the vice-president of Umno today told PAS that they have no right whatsoever to question and dispute the legitimacy of Rohaizat Othman, their candidate for the Permatang Pasir by-election. He said "What is there to dispute about? To us, he (Rohaizat) is our best candidate for the by-election. Yesterday, during the nomination of candidates, he brought along his parents and wife. It shows he's a good son who's always supported and blessed by his family. BN could also question or comment on PAS' choice of candidate, Mohd Salleh Man, who had never won in any general election despite several attempts, but BN did not wish to do such a thing. Therefore, PAS and its by-election director Datuk Mahfuz Omar should not make any mischievous or misleading statements on the BN candidate.”

OMG (Oh My God),
Off all the people, it's Zahid Hamidi, our Defence Minister, who have to come out to protect this bloody Rohaizat? I am awed and so angry I would like spit on his face. Why must it has to be him, why can't he shut up? What is he trying to prove?

And all the corrupt generals, are you not relived now to have a potential protector of your corrupt practice, in within Mindef itself? Happy?

Why Zahid has to expose himself stupidly and now he has made himself a target, why is it worth for him to demonstrate to UMNO that he has spoken to show that he is also as vice president as any other UMNO vice presidents, to help an UMNO candidate?

My confidence level on him is dipping, I should have known I cannot trust him, not as Defence Minister and not as a good politician he potrays himself is.

Mail Polin is certainly upbeat by this to dream on for his PAT.

And Dato'

I certainly agree with you that Rohaizat will be a target for ridicule by any sensible rakyat, not only by opposition. But I don't agree if you term it as ridicule, it is in fact a reaction from anyone who can see how ridiclous UMNO can be in desperation to score a first win in By-Election.

If anyone thinks about ridicule, please think why in the first place must UMNO put a controversial candidate? That to me is inviting a burglar into your home.

Let me show you below, how a creative rakyat can bring in a good ridicule to help us in understanding what is Rohaizat:
___________

During a ceramah, Rohaizat was on the stage giving his speech and accepting questions. Anyway, most of them were there because of the free "makan" .... anyway, some stay back and listen to his speech ... hoping to get some tips on "how to increase your income".

Half way through Rohaizat speech, someone from the crowd asked, " encik Rohaizat, what so great about your concept of "how to increase your income", you succeeded in making the rm140,000.00 but at last you still kena kicked out by the Bar Council".

And Rohaizat answered " Arrrr ! that is the question i am waiting for, let say if i am a PR lawyer and i absconded the rm140,000.00, 1st i will be kick out by the Bar Council and 2nd i will go to jail".
And he continue " Look when someone belong to Amno and if he absconded with rm140,000.00, you may be kick out by the Bar Council BUT you DON'T have to go to jail" That's the sweetness of being a member of Amno. That is why i am here to offer all of you the "ultimate protection scheme" which is better than any insurance scheme in our country and the best part .... it is free of charge. Anymore questions ? Suddenly, everyone were frozen with their mouth wide open.

Salam Dato'
I had the same thoughts too thinking UMNO had fielded a better candidate this time, but was informed by my friends that UMNO had very few or no clean and capable leaders seems to be true. As I had been told, rogues will select another rogue otherwise they will be exposed by the better guys who have integrity and are capable. Not only UMNO suffers from this syndrome but to a certain level various ministries. When we do not Insaf this is the result and more debacles to come.
Who suffers most from the debacles i.e. the Rakyat especially the Malays who are on the end line of the corruption. If we do not stop this corruption line then the Malay generations to come will lose out. It's like saying I will join UMNO so that I can become well connected i.e. in simpler terms "rich".

So the opposition must make efforts to fill up this gap on credible leadership esp. PAS vis a vis PKR.
The opposition must show that they uphold the present constitution, progressive efficiency level vis a vis good governance, create an atmosphere of transparency, integrity, fairness for all races where is required (this take time and shrewd political endeavours) ,
political cultural maturity, be politically smart on sensitive issues.
We all should supplicate to Allah SWT Insya'Allah we would get better leaders soon before bigger debacles come into being.
Salam
