CAN CHIN PENG BE ALLOWED TO RETURN?

There is now a raging controversy with regards to a question of whether the former CPM leader Chin Peng ( Ong Boon Hua) be allowed to return to Malaysia or not. This controversy was the result of a statement made by Penang Gerakan Chairman Datuk Dr. Teng Hock Nan who had suggested that Chin Peng be allowed to return to his country of birth, supposedly because of failing age, and that he no longer posed a threat to the country. But one thing is certain, that Chin Peng like any other communist, will never renounce his communist ideology, and that’s the issue that all Malaysians must be concern about.

The government is firm in its decision not to allow Chin Peng to return, but there are now voices to the contrary; the reason being that Chin Peng they claim was a patriot; a nationalist of sorts, who fought an arm insurrection to dispose off the British colonialist. But wasn’t Chin Peng and his marauding band of bandits offered an amnesty in 1955; denounce their CPM status and to participate in a legally constituted political party? The amnesty was rejected by Chin Peng and his followers, who wanted to retain their CPM status, and be given the freedom to propagate the communist ideology. This was flatly denied by the Malayan government then under the leadership of Tunku Abdul Rahman.

Speaking for those who had sacrificed their lives fighting against the communist terrorist from 1948 till 1960, and again from 1969 till 1990, I will not give a second thought to the idea of allowing Chin Peng to return to this country.

The security forces had fought the communist threat for a total of 33 years; hundreds have died in the process, and many more maimed for life, and for the families that have seen the loved ones die, it would not be that easy to forget and to forgive.

I could still remember during the period of the First Malayan Emergency (1948-1960), I had friends in my village of Ulu Langat, Selangor, having lost their parents through kidnapping by the communist terrorist, and their bodies were never recovered. Till today, my friends who are of my age, still talks about their lost parents. And do you think they will ever forgive Chin Peng for this?

And similarly, during the ‘Second Malaysian Emergency (1969-1990)’, I lost a lot of friends (soldiers and officers alike) fighting the communist terrorist. Any sane person having seen a comrade die, will never forget nor forgive those who have killed them.

Datuk Dr. Teng Hock Nan may not have experienced the long and torturous period that the security forces have to endure seeking and fighting the communist throughout the 33 years in the jungles. Neither have he seen friends die fighting the communist, and for that reason, I can forgive him for his ignorance.

But for us who have toiled in the jungles for months on end to ensure the peace that prevails in the country today, will find it hard to accept even the mere the sight of Chin Peng back in Setiawan, Perak.

Dato,
Respectfully the same standards should be applied to all Communists. Were not some allowed in? There was an agreement, pls click on the link to view the

Once a Communist always a Communist. When one embraces an ideological-based crusade, one embraced it wholeheartedly to the core of a person and will never abandon it.

Allowing Chin Peng back, may draw like minded people together and use him as the figurehead to spearhead another Communist movement especially in this time of political upheaval.

Additionally, we are not reneging on the 1989 agreement.

As long as Chin Peng insists that he was born in Malaysia, the government will always reject the application on the grounds of inability to prove his citizenship.

On actual fact that, without his birth certificate, Chin Peng is now a person without a country.

On the basis of returning to Malaysia as a non origin person, his application will still be rejected as his application is categorized as asylum seeking which the government will need to consider factors.

Yes, I feel that we all should support Datuk Dr. Teng Hock Nan for Chin Peng to be allowed to return to his country of birth.

When he returns all those whose fathers, mothers, uncles and families were brutally slaughtered by Chin Peng and his men, will join me to welcome him. All those families of veterans who have lost their lives or injured during the operations against Malayan Communist Party Terrorists will also join us to welcome Chin Peng.

After giving him a red carpet welcoming home we WILL make him pay for all the crimes and brutalities which he and his followers had committed to our loved ones. We know what plan to take.

Datuk Dr. Teng, don't you have some human feelings? How I wish Chin Peng had done the same thing which he and his men did in slaughtering members of our family so that you understand our suffering and revenge!

The government is making the biggest mistake if this Communist Criminal Chin Peng is allowed to come to Malaysia!

Dato,
In my earler comments, I said that the same standards be applied. Here you can see pictures of Abdullah C.D. and Suriani with DYMM Sultan Azlan Shah on the 1st Disember 1998, Photo: Abdullah C.D. and the IGP Tan Sri Naniff Omar in Kuala Lumpur on the 9/12/2007 and Photo: Abdullah C.D. and Suriani with ex Minister Aziz Samsuddin in Kuala Lumpur on the 9/12/2007. The truth is sometimes glaring along with double standards. Has ethnicity got anything to do with this?

I vehemently object to this scum's return. I do agree with Swami that there has been double standards. I am amazed that the Defence Minister straightaway goes for the political milage of introducing the "communist bogeyman" in our midst. Surely he must be joking! I would rather he focuses on modernising the force and putting defence on a proper national perpective.

I agree with Maj(Rtd)D.Swami that we should be consistent with our policy towards the former leadership of CPM.

Since Abdullah C.D and Suriani had been the VIP treatment there is no reason whatsoever to deny Chin Pen's request to return to Malaysia.

As stipulated by Legion, the 1989 Agreement, seems to have given him right of return if he can prove he was born in Malaya.

We soldiers and ex-soldiers, as normal, have to swallow and suffer the short sightedness of our political leaders.

Unknown said...

I beg to differ from Major Swami and maurice.

What our political have done to accept Abdullah C.D. and Suriani to return is a stupid mistake. You, soldiers or ex-soldiers had swallowed the short sightedness of political leaders is also a mistake. Two mistakes can never make one right!

Any citizen found guilty of killing innocent people will go to the gallows... serve them right!
The communist terrorists, whether Malays, Chinese, Indians or any other race must pay for the crimes which they committeed.

Chin Peng and his followers were also traitors...( what rubbish are we talking about their heroism?) who fought to topple the government. What do traitors deserve? Firing squad!

Yes, we should allow Ching Peng to come to Malaysia. Just like I have indicated earlier, we will give him a special welcome as a criminal who have slaughtered and murdered hundreds of innocent citizens ( some were my families).

We have a special plan for him after that.

Md,
"What our political have done to accept Abdullah C.D. and Suriani to return is a stupid mistake. You, soldiers or ex-soldiers had swallowed the short sightedness of political leaders is also a mistake".

So double standards are okay with you. You have not answered the question on ethnicity. It plays an important role in dogmatic mindsets.

Dear All,

I feel sad that the question of ethnicity is being raised in our arguments. This is the last thing that I would want to discuss. The government may have its reasons for bringing home Abdullah CD and Suraini, but I hope it has nothing to do with ethnicity. And if we were to go on talking about ethnicity, when can we ever call ourselves Malaysians.

Major D Swami (Retired) said...

Ethnicity plays a big role in Malaysia. I have been a victim of that. The Government of Malaysia practises it, it is policy. Remember Dato Lt Gen Zaini, I am only stating what is there, it is the truth. PSD scholarships, SPM students versus STPM students, housing discounts, low standard matriculation against STPM qualifying for Uni's, etc. Sometimes whether we like it or not the truth must be told. That is the way in Malaysia. It is policy. Some people are more equal than others.

If anybody is to be crucified are those corrupted poltition who make away with wang rakyat which is very very serious as to talking about whether we should aloud Chin Peng to comeback. Many people are loosing their jobs right this minute. Wakeup!!

Salam Dato,

Personally I find communism to be a made up religion by an atheist for that matter a Jew for global economic reasons; and that is another long story . However coming to the main subject, I am told Chin Peng is a British national so the Brits should handle him. However if Chin Peng were to renounce communism publicly then his citizenship can be considered. I do not consider him a traitor, If we look at some politician the way they abuse the public funds then why not we call them traitors for putting this country in a weaker economic position period.

Oh dear, who mess it up again?
First they all signed a treaty - "Hatyai Peace Accord".
Whoever wants to return must adhere to conditions....good.
Some came back even from China...!
Some died in Hatyai due to old age!
Some came back wrote some books and died!
Why cant we acknowledge that he is a citizen of this country...did he not receive an award from the Queen herself in London for fighting the Japanese?
Did he not meet Tunku in Baling?
Yes, did he not appear in history books many times.
Why is RICE anak Yatim arguing so shamefully and the others respond so so emotionally ?
A peace treaty is for WHAT?
Is it to fight another day...?
Or keep grudges and hatred burning ?

Even in Islam it says "If your enemy surrenders himself don't harm him anymore".

Take a look and check what the great Prophet Muhammad saw taught us! HUMILITY !

So please don't get too emotional but remain rational!

Are we an Islamic country or trying to be one! Or are we nothing at all - just a failed STATE.

All that commented are mostly MALAYS and Ministers also not sure they understand what ISLAM teaches or teachers teach?!!!!

Ask TOK GURU NIK AZIZ of PAS he has the answer!

I strongly agree with you Komando. "Kita mudah LUPA apa yang kita janjikan." It is just like the politician making promises during election campaigns and forget about it later.

Why are we so worried with the present of Chin Peng? Does it mean that our Police and Military cannot handle him and his ideologies? So what? if he returns back to society? He and his comrade might have killed our officers and friends and so do we..

I think what we have gone through is enough, and Chin Peng is an asset now to build and maintain peace and security in the country.

Lets our soldiers train for War and prepare themselves for external aggression. Lets the Police do their primary task of internal security.

We must change our mindset NOW....

Gentlemen,

PM Najib has made the decision not allowing murderer, rapist and traitor communist Chin Peng to come to Malaysia. That decision is the decision of this country, it is final and we all should respect it and stop here.

Please don't invite ethnicity discussion here because this may lead to more discussions on Malaysian constitution, the right of the Malays, the bumi, the non-bumi, etc. All the Malaysians who choose to be citizens of this country have to respect and abide by the Constitution, if not we will have endless arguements.

For Major Swami who claims to be a victim of the so called "ethnicity"
I will talk to his former bosses in the military and establish the credibility of his statement. If true, I feel sorry for him for feeling himself being victimised and I feel that there must be something wrong somewhere. Any serving military officer or ex-servicemen who have knowledge of Major Swami's complain should come forward and explain to him what actually happened.

The Malaysian Constitution was never designed and is never meant for victimising people like Major Swami. We all respect our nation's Costitution if not, we have to find another country!

maurice said...

Yes, we want to know the details of Maj Swami's victimization.

Could we request Maj Swami to contact Dato Arshad, the host of this blog?

Hope we can learn something from our fellow blogger.

Dear Maurice and Mohamed,

You may wish to read an article posted on April 17, 2009 titiled "Grievence of a non-bumiputra army officer". This was written in response to Maj D. Swami's grievences.

It is because of ethnicity that the Armed Forces are considered loyal to the ruling government.

But I do not think ethnicity has anything to do with whether to allow Chin Peng to return or not.

Yes, an agreement was signed with the Communists but Chin Peng still need to prove that he was born in Malaya as part of the requirements to allow him to come back.

Dato,

It is never to late for Mindef to apologize to Maj Swami over the mistake made by the Divisional Commander.

Perhaps you could make a case to the Minister of Defence. He has at his disposal to handle this sensitive case in the correct manner.

The art of military leadership in a multi-cultural and religious societies, such as ours, will be further enrich by this very important lesson.

Dear Dato

I have never been an army, so I don't exactly know what is ringing in an army's mind when it comes to communism.

If something in an agreement says so, we should honor it no matter how much we feel and being emotional about it.

Ethnicity aside, the govt must honor what they have promised.

Sometimes, we have no choice but to voice out ethnicity issue not to argue over who is right and who is wrong. The reason is to acknowledge that it is a BIG FLAW to have ethnic based policy. As long as ethnic policy is in place, it will cause Malaysians to be divided according to racial line. And opportunists will use ethnic policy to enrich themselves and damn the rest of the citizens.
