On 25 March 2009, I had posted an article concerning the poor state of maintenance of Sg. Udang Camp, Melaka; a camp that is the home of our Malaysian Special Forces Training Center.
Two days ago, I received an sms from someone informing that action has now been taken to begin the maintenance work on some of the dilapidated buildings that I had mentioned in my article, especially the married quarters and the messes.
Should this information is true, and if it was my article that had moved Army to act speedily, then I wish to thank them for having heeded to the needs of the officers and soldiers that had endured living under dilapidated conditions.
Army should now shift their attention to Taiping, and to witness for themselves the poor state of the old other rank married quarters besides the road leading towards the newly constructed Malaysian Services Corps Officers Mess and guest house. I was there, and I think the soldiers deserve better houses than the ones they are provided now.

Coincidentally, I did take any pictures. But if you are familiar with the OR houses built in Kluang Camp or Tambun Camp, they are similar. It is a two bedroom house meant for the Gurkhas. We also get these house at Sg. Besi Camp.

I was previously stayed at Gurkha MQ during my service time at Sg Udang. Indeed it's very sad to said that there is only one Bedroom, one living hall and one kitchen. The problem is when our parents come to visit us and plan to stayed for a few nights. You just imagined that.
Indeed now the OR MQ is much better than before.

Siapa peduli nasib askar ni Dato,silap nya kita juga masa berkhidmat dulu beri muka sangat dengan KSU and geng kat Mindef tu. Ada satu ketika mangkuk mangkuk tu bandingkan status mereka sama macam General General konon sebab gaji mereka sama katanye.
But I dont give a damn to them and in fact tell them off straight on their faces.Kita manja sangat dengan civilian kat Mindef tu, dan ada General yang penakut nak berdepan dengan pegawai awam tu seolah olah tentera dibawah telunjuk mereka.sebab itu askar dapat kemudahan yang haprak.
If YB DS Zahid Hamidi can solve the housing woes of our soldiers, such as the ones highlighted in this blog, he will be hailed as a hero by our soldiers.
How to find the money to do the job?
A case can be made to stop the NS training scheme since its intended objectives could easily be achieved by our education system, (if only we try harder).
The money saved which run into hundreds million ringgit annually can be used to overcome the housing misery of our soldiers.

Yes, I have seen how the Taiping MQs look like. Even though the buildings are of old fashion type but then with proper maintenance and exterior and interior touch up and modification,I believe it is still worth to preserve.
Believe me, with our new Defence Minister YB DS Zahid Hamidi more pleasant Military Quarters will be at heart with him.

As a civilian who has the highest respect for the army, I feel so disgusted and am ashamed of the army leadership if it is true that they are responding only after your article and readers' comments in the blogg. I may have to review my regards to the shining stars on the shoulders and rows of medals up to the shoulders!
Where is the army leadership's commitments and responsibility to give the highest standard of soldiers' basic needs? The married quarters and the barracks are the soldiers' home and it is fair that the army generals give concerted effort to upgrade their housing as what have been done by the navy and the air force.
I had my Friday prayer at TUDM Sungai Besi to-day. I am most impressed with what I saw at this old air force base ( handed over by the british in late fiftiees). The old wooden buildings are either being replaced with new brick ones or some have been given facelift to commensurate with 2009 living.
Why can't the army do the same with their Sungai Petani, Kluang and Terendak camps. Army generals, go and meet up YB Dato' Zahid Hamidi, show my comments and I am sure he will give the army a fair chance to improve army housing.
What had the army generals been focussing all along? Defence hardwares and systems which offer lucrative incentives?
I suggest the army forgets helicopters, main battle tanks, missiles, 155 guns and other very expensive defence hardwares until soldiers basic needs are met and at par with that of the sailors and airmen.

I tend to believe the remarks made by a reader that priority changes with leadership change in the Army. In this sense, the Navy, I believe is more consistent. As I have said in my previous articles, the culture that is being developed in the Army is 'the buying culture' at muck-up prices that is crazy.

The Army leadership is not to be entirely blamed for the poor state of some MQs for their the rank file.
Plans and Development Division (Bahagian Perancangan dan Pembangunan) at Army HQ has developed plans year in and year out to upgrade these MQs but the budget given has always fell far short of what they require.With what little they received they repaired the most critical ones.
It seems there is a flaw in the allocation of upgrading/maintenance budget by the KSU.The KSU take the easy way out by dividing the upgrading/maintenance budget the Ministry gets from the MOF equally between the Army, Navy and Air Force.
Obviously, the Navy and Air Force tend to gain from this system as they have smaller number of MQs under their care compared to the Army.
The KSU in all fairness to the Army, should allocate the upgrading/maintenance budget to the three services according to priority across the board.His people should walk the ground and see for themselves the state of MQs nation-wide and only then make the decision who should get what.
The Army should lobby harder to get the unfair distribution system rectified.
GOLFING
THE ARMY GENERALS ALL HAVE TIME TO PLAY GOLF DAY AND NIGHT EVEN. THAT'S THEIR WAY TO WALK THE GROUNDS ON THEIR FAT BACKSIDES AND WORST STILL ON BUGGIES WITH LOVELY CADDIES ALL FEMALES FROM INDON.
THEY CAN'T EVEN WALK BECAUSE MANY OF THEM ARE OBESE AND MUCH DESIRED TO LOOK AT...YES POT BELLIED GENERALS!
THEY ASKED ALL SOLDIERS TO RUN WHILST THEY CAN'T EVEN WALK TO LAY GOLF!THEY TEST ALL SOLDIERS & JUNIOR OFFICERS BUT THEY ARE ALL EXEMPTED!
GENERALS IN OTHER COUNTRIES RUN AND KEEP FIT, BUT OUR ARMY GENERALS KEEP GETTING FATTER AND FATTER.
WHAT CAN WE EXPECT ?
ALL SOLDIERS PLEASE TAKE HEED!
