The acquittal verdict by the presiding judge in the Anwar Ibrahim’s sodomy charge on Monday will be headline news for many more weeks to come, particularly in the new media and blogs. Seriously, I did not expect an acquittal verdict, and I had even wrote earlier that Anwar’s position is a forgone case. I would not even believe the statements made by Anwar’s defence team that they had a good chance of winning the case, simply because I am greatly influence by previous court judgment, whereby cases brought up against the opposition would normally end up in them (opposition) being the loser.
I am not at all elated by the acquittal because I believe there are many more cases; and serious ones too, that have not been accorded due justice. Here, I am talking about the numerous incidents of death in police custody, and not a single policeman has been charged, tried, found guilty and sentenced for causing such death. I am not going to list them here as these are renowned cases where justice simply took a blind course. Clearly, there isn’t the will by the authorities to prosecute their kind and this leaves the perpetrators to roam freely, despite the guilt of being an accomplished in the murderous scheme.
I am also not too concern by the comments made by some of our UMNO leaders and their likes that the acquittal verdict on Anwar is proof that the judiciary wasn’t in anyway influenced by the government. I hope such comments coming from the PM, DPM, Rais Yatim and even from Tun Dr. Mahathir are sincere and come from deep in their heart. Honestly, I have serious doubts because it is a known fact that since Anwar’s sacking in 1998, he has been UMNO’s arch enemy and surely UMNO does want to see its enemy survive the political turmoil. They would rather like to see Anwar being cast away in oblivion. This is a fact that they all cannot deny.
I do not want to prejudge the course of action that the prosecution would want to take, but surely we cannot deny them their rights for an appeal. And should the prosecution wins the appeal and the acquittal verdict reversed to one of guilty as charged, then there is no justifiable reason for anyone to now say that the judgment is being influenced by the government. So you see this is the reason why I do not want to believe in any of the comments made by our UMNO leaders. In this regards, let us all be reminded of the illegal take-over by UMNO of the Perak state government following the 2008 election that an earlier judgment in favour of the PR was subsequently reversed in favour of UMNO. This is political trickery and a ploy of the highest order that could only happen in Boleh Land.
As for Anwar and PR, please do not for once be too certain that your chances of winning the upcoming election and of forming a new government is easily within grasp. You do not know what’s up the sleeves of the BN, and you ought to know too well the enormous resources (I mean money) within their control. Do you need to be reminded of how one particular UMNO Pekan candidate who was certain to lose the election, could suddenly become a winner by some miraculous stroke of luck? This can also happen to Anwar and the rest at their own turf. Anwar and PR have to set aside any thoughts of forming a new government as yet and to focus their sights on improving their gains in the last 2008 elections.
A strong and credible opposition is what this country desires, regardless who wins the election.

WHO RUNS THE PERAK STATE GOVERNMENT
Dato' Seri Abd Najib Tun Razak was reported to have said, “the Perak state assembly cannot be held because there has been a court action”. He further said, “we have to first establish the status of the Perak government in terms of the constitution”.
Surprisingly, it is only now that Najib realise the illegitimacy of the new Perak state government which he had crafted. From the statements of Najib, Zambry and his exco can now take a rest until such time the court decides the status of the new Perak government. Meanwhile, it is only proper that Nazir be reinstate the Menteri Besar (that is rightfully his), and to run the state government during the interim period, which will also resolve the salary payment to the rightful Menteri Besar.
Najib is still left with an option to retain Perak, if he is so desperate not to lose i.e. to declare a state of emergency in Perak, citing the prevailing constitutional crises. It will be foolish if he does this, and the consequence of such a declaration can be devastating to the state.
This is the third time Najib has failed the BN. The first two being his failure to win back Permatang Pauh and Kuala Trengganu by-elections. Should he now fail to win Perak through the constitutional and legal means, this may be a signal of his political demise. But being so close to being the sixth Prime Minister of Malaysia, surely his supporters within UMNO would be working hard to shove Najib popularity, despite the negativities about him, that has been drumming load outside UMNO.
There is no doubt that Najib will be the next Prime Minister, but will his term in office be smooth sailing? This will be interesting to watch.

DEFECTION – WILL THIS BE THE FUTURE OF MALAYSIAN POLITICS?
“UMNO had stooped so low by accepting former PKR assemblymen who have been charge with corruption” was the remarks made by Tun Mahathir Mohamed, in view of the events surrounding the PR led state government over the defections of a number of its assemblymen to the BN.
Responding to these defections, BN components party leaders have expressed support for the coalition to form a new state government in Perak, despite what many say as “a government formed through illegitimate means”. It appears that for the BN, gaining back the lost states is the end, and the means to that end does not really matter.
And for this, I have to remind Information Minister Shabery Cheek to ask UMNO/BN to be “more mature in politics and do not hope for defections by elected representatives to enable them to join any new government that might be formed”. This was what he said of PAS and the opposition in London, and have you forgotten this Shabery Cheek? What have you to say now.........just swallow your words.
For me, all the four assemblymen that had defected from PR and joined BN does not deserve to remain elected representatives. They ought to remember that the electorates had voted them on the basis of them being a representative of the party that they had once belong. They cannot now claim that they have the full support of the electorates which is quite the contrary. This is because their decision to defect is not the decision of the electorates; rather it was a unilateral decision. Hence, their position as an elected representative is deemed illegitimate, and to prove their legitimacy to the position is by resigning and to contest a by-election.
Tun Mahathir's remarks of UMNO's decision to accept defectors, and worse still with a tinted record is apt. UMNO cannot now say that they have accepted them based on the people's choice and having the confidence of the electorates. Neither can they be referred to as leaders, and if UMNO insist that they be called leaders, I will dubbed them as 'shameless leaders'. Worse still, by willingly accepting them, will only add to UMNO's already large numbers of tinted members/representatives.
One ought not to be distracted by the events surrounding the fall of the state of Perak to the BN. Rather, one has to search very deeply the circumstances that had caused the PR assemblymen to defect. There will be many questions to be asked and equally, many answers to be made. Whatever be the questions, certainly CORRUPTION will be in everybody's mind.

BEHRANG & CHANGKAT JERING – BATTLE OF THE CENTURY
I AM PUZZLED.........puzzling indeed! This two PR Perak state assemblymen, Jamaluddin Md. Radzi and Mohd Osman Jailu are in hiding, and for what? We know that they have a corruption case to answer, but isn't corruption synonymous with some politicians? Some get caught and some don't, but this two state assemblymen (or have they lost their status as assemblymen) hiding is a real mystery.
There has been many speculations regarding their mysterious act, but I do not want to further add to the speculations that has already being talked and written about.
My concern is more for the constituents who had voted them as their representative. Acting the way they did is a betrayal of the people's thrust, and for this the two 'miscreants' deserve a sack from the party. Accepting them back into the party will be a grievous mistake, because they have shown themselves to be irresponsible, dishonorable, uncouth and without principle.
This a bitter lesson for Pakatan Rakyat, and the party ought to be more cautious and selective in naming their future candidates. Naming someone as a candidate on the basis of popularity alone may no longer be correct. He has to have brains and with impeecable background, and one of action rather than talk. I have always admired people who can talk, but more often they are not people of action. And at the same time, we have seen people who are reticent, but they are highly principled and full of action. Read the book 'The Reluctant Politician' and you will know whom I mean. Malaysian can never again get a politician like the person that I am referring to in the book.
With the 'sacking' of the two former state assemblymen, the country is geared to witness two simultaneous by-elections in one state. This is going to be dubbed the 'battle of the century' and losing is not an option for either the BN and PR, more so for the latter.
And will we once again see the grand Santa Claus making its rounds in Behrang and Changkat Jering on the scale of Kuala Trengganu? And what about the policemen this time. Can they afford to deploy such massive number of policemen to the two constituents simultaneously? Wonder what the scene will be like for the two constituencies.
