IS KHIR TOYO POORER FOR NOT RECEIVING HIS ALLOWANCES?

It was reported that former Menteri Besar Selangor Dato' Seri Khir Toyo had on Monday 12, 2009 filed a summon at the Shah Alam High Court challenging the suspension order barring him from attending the State Legislative Assembly, to be null and void. The suspension order was issued by the Selangor State Assembly's Select Committee on Competency, Accountability and Transparency (SELCAT), after Khir Toyo had failed to attend the SELCAT session to answer allegations of abuse in the use of funds pertaining to the Selangor state investment arm (PNSB) to the tune of several millions.

It is unbelievable that PNSB could cough out RM 900,000 for an 8 days trip for Khir Toyo and his family to Morocco and Paris in 2004, supposedly to study Islamic architecture. He made many other trips subsequently with his family members all at the expense of PNSB, without ever feeling any guilt that the money he spend is not his.

Khir Toyo is also being investigated by MACC over the purchase and construction of a palatial home in Shah Alam that is said to have a market value in excess of RM20 million. Pictures of the house that Khir Toyo built and his extravagant spending of PNSB funds has been circulating in the Internet over the past few weeks. There are also talks that Khir Toyo has acquired some properties in Indonesia, and this has yet to be substantiated.

I do not know whether the Income Tax department is interested to look at Khir Toyo's tax returns since he became the Menteri Besar, knowing full well that there is a possibility that the physical wealth he has accumulated does not commensurate with his income. I am not accusing Khir Toyo of thievery, but this is the perception that Selangoreans has of him now; and me included.

In filing the summon, one of the things that Khir Toyo wants is the return of all his allowances that had been with-held following his suspension. No amount was mentioned, but I suppose it could not have been in the millions.

But despite his earlier claims that he has businesses to maintain his lifestyle and sufficient funds to built his palatial home, his summon seems to suggest that he has been made a little poorer because of the with-holding of his ADUN allowances. I am not quite sure how much is the ADUN allowance, but surely it is not sufficient to make him an instant millionaire. Or is he facing some financial difficulties to continue his extravagant lifestyle, that his allowances now becomes sort of his lifeline?

I suppose Khir Toyo need to have a feel of the 'personal financial crunch' that some Selangorean suffer during his rule. Having been at the helm of the Selangor state government for two terms and savoured so much of luxuries and good living, he now deserves to feel what others have felt with only a meager income.

WHO THE HELL WANTS KHIR TOYO DEAD?

It was reported that former MB Selangor Khir Toyo had received a death threat letter from an anonymous individual on Tuesday 15, 2009. The letter was hand written and bears the Bukit Raja, Klang postage mark. The person warned Khir to lay off from any attempt to take over the Selangor state government; otherwise he will be shot dead with a gun or be blow piped with a poison dart.

I just do not know whether to laugh or cry at this threat, because I see no logical reason for anyone to kill Khir Toyo. In fact many in Selangor (me included) preferred him alive so that he can face the law regarding his palatial home and the Balkis affairs that is currently under investigations by MACC. The longer he stays alive, the better it is for Selangor, because many more 'skeletons' will be revealed in the course of the investigation.

I tend to believe that the letter is some sort of a ruse to divert the attention of people away from the on going MACC investigation. It could also be an attempt to influence the minds of the people that the death threat letter is the work of someone from the ruling party of the Selangor state government. I know to well that the supporters of Khir Toyo will soon be coming out with several allegations all aimed at blaming the PR state government, and to keep the MB Tan Sri Khalid on the defensive.

I am not surprise too that the supporters of Khir Toyo will try another 'kepala lembu' trick i.e. to launch a protest in front of the gates of the Selangor State Secretariat or in front of the residence of the MB carrying banners alleging that the PR government is implicated in the attempted murder of Khir Toyo. The reason they will give is that the PR government wants to shut off Khir Toyo because he knows too much about the abuses and corruption of the state government, and this is enough to spark an immediate reaction by the Selangor MACC to launch further raids on the PR government.

If at all the the intention to kill off Khir Toyo by elements within the PR state government is true, then I would say that the PR is stupid; much more stupid than a cow. Isn't this what Khir Toyo has said of a cow?

MACC KICK START ITS INVESTIGATIONS ON KHIR TOYO

The headlines on Star Online, Friday September 11, 2009 reads, “MACC to quiz Khir”, and one cannot be mistaken as to who that Khir person is. Incidentally, I too have a cousin by the same name, but definitely he is not the person the media is referring to.

At last the MACC is going for someone 'big', and Selangoreans like me who have all along been suspicious of Khir Toyo, looks forward to the outcome of the investigations. If all could remember, it was Khir Toyo and his famous 'broom award' that have angered most civil servants in Selangor. Say what he wants, but awarding a broom to a civil servant in the presence of others, is ill intended and disgusting. Now it is time that he is being 'broomed' by MACC, and the Malay saying,”buat baik berpada pada, buat jahat jangan sekali” truly describes what Khir deserve for his ill intended action.

It was reported that MACC had opened up the investigation on Khir's alleged abuse and corrupt practise based on an earlier report made in a blog over his palatial home that costs millions, and subsequently the allegations made by DAP state assemblyman Ng Swee Lim. Khir defended himself against any wrong doing and claimed that had he acquired a bank loan to purchase the home.

It seems that Selangor state assemblymen under the Khir Toyo regime has a penchant for palatial homes, and Khir Toyo is not alone at this. Remember the palace built by one Dato Zakaria, dubbed the 'Zakaria Palace' in Klang. One only need to look around, to observe what other palaces have the other BN assemblymen built.

And this reminds me of my trip to Sarawak some years ago, where I was taken on a tour by my host to look at some of the 'palaces' of the Sarawak state assemblymen. He even showed me the home of the Chief Minister, but what I manage to see is only the entrance gate to the house. I was told that the Chief Minister's home is indeed a palace build on acres of land, and I suppose he deserve a palace as a reward for being the nation's longest serving Chief Minister.

Now back to Khir Toyo. The report says that besides an investigation on Khir's Palace, the MACC will also be investigating about the accounts of Balkis (Wives of Selangor State Assemblymen an MP's Charity and Welfare Organisation) in which Khir's wife is a party. His refusal to attend the Selcat inquiry into the Balkis affairs only heightens people's perception that he is guilty of all the allegations against him. By refusing, he had missed an opportunity to clear his name.

Now that the heat is on Khir Toyo, what other findings will emerge out of the investigation? Will Khir Toyo be implicated in the current Selcat inquiry into the allegation of irregularities in the spending of the BN assemblymen allocation prior to the March 8, 2008 General Elections? Will he also be questioned about the Kepala Lembu incident in Shah Alam? What about the mysterious letter alleging the Selangor State MACC boss close association with Khir Toyo when he was the Menteri Besar, that appeared in the Teoh Beng Hock's on-going inquest? Has Khir Toyo got anything to do with the issues surrounding the PKFZ debacle?

These are exciting times for Selangor, and my piece of advise to the present PR state government is to be watchful, as the move by BN to get back Selangor by 'hook or by crook' is gaining momentum.

SPY VS SPY

Investigations into the death of Teoh Beng Hock is getting more muddled now, with everyone riding on this most unfortunate incident to make themselves heard, but forgetting the sentiments of the families of the victims whom I believe would prefer to have this incident rested quickly, and the truth revealed……not just a show of public sympathy.

The general consensus among the concerned public is a call for the setting up of the Royal Commission of Inquiry. This is the only means acceptable to quell public opinion since investigations by the police or MACC, however independent and transparent they claim their investigation to be, will not fully satisfy the public, and especially the families of the victim.

I know read that the police have now gone into the MACC HQ to take away documents and obtain statements from several MACC officers. Even the CCTV is not spared. This sound like the comic series Spy vs Spy in my favourite Mad Magazine that I used to read in my younger days. I am just wondering what other agency, if there is one, to now investigate the police over this matter. Not MACC I hope.

With everyone focused on the death of Beng Hock, what will be the fate of the investigation of the alleged false claims by several PR Selangor state assemblymen that was carried out by the MACC? Will it slowly fade into oblivion, or kept in hibernation to be revisited later? I ask this question because there are already too many cases that have faded into oblivion or kept in hibernation.

And can someone brief me on the status of the investigation that the MACC has started, concerning the Palace of Khir Toyo? Not kept in hibernation I hope.

KHIR TOYO BACK IN THE LIMELIGHT

Once again, former Selangor MB Khir Toyo is back in the limelight, this time over a house (or was it a palace) that he has built in Section 7, Shah Alam that is reported to cost more than RM 20 million. Khir Toyo claimed that he had taken up a bank loan of RM 3.5 million to purchase the land and subsequently built the house. But what is not known is how much was spend to built the house that resembles Michael Jackson’s palatial home, and fittings and furniture’s that is reported to have been imported.

To most people that had viewed the photos of the house, the obvious reaction would be one of surprise and bewilderment. Questions would then be asked as to how much would the house cost, and could Khir Toyo genuinely afford to pay for such a grand house with the income that he gets previously as the Menteri Besar, and now as a state assemblyman. It would have been different if he had purchased the land and built the house prior to venturing into politics. And being a dentist prior to being the Menteri Besar, it was hardly possible for Khir Toyo to even afford buying a house that is worth RM 1 million.

Now, Khir Toyo has decided to sue DAP’s Sekinchan assemblyman Ng Suee Lim for raising to public notice, the palatial home that Khir Toyo has built, stating that he is “fed- up with all the baseless allegations that have been leveled against him”. Khir Toyo certainly has every right to sue assemblyman Ng Suee Lim, but I believe this will not stop others from exposing fresh allegation of supposedly corrupt practices by Khir Toyo and the previous BN state government.

It is a known fact that for a person who is involved in corrupt practices, it is not easy for the person to continually deny his involvement in corruption. To deny would mean that the person has to craft a convincing lie, and subsequently many more lies as a cover or justification to an earlier lie. This lying process will go on until such time the person gets tangled up in his own lie, before the person finally breaks down. I hope Khir Toyo knows this and it is for this reason that it is better to tell the truth, even if he has to admit that he has done something wrong. For one to admit that he has done wrong is virtuous, and people are always willing to forgive and forget once forgiveness is sought by the wrong doer.

Since being ousted as the Menteri Besar, Khir Toyo has been the obvious target for corruption by the present ruling PR government. But I still find it strange that none of the previous BN executive council members of the Khir Toyo administration has come to the defence of their former boss. They all seemed to be in hibernation since having lost their position in government, or are they too afraid to speak up, fearing that some of their corrupt practices (if they are any) will also be spilled out.

TAN SRI KHALID IBRAHIM SUES DATUK AHMAD SAID FOR LIBEL

The Sun, Monday, April 27, 2009 reports that Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim is suing MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Ahmad Said Hamdan and the Government of Malaysia over statements that Tan Sri Khalid had abused his powers.

Datuk Ahmad Said had on February 21, 2009 remarked to the effect that the investigations into the alleged misuse of power by Tan Sri Khalid over the maintenance of his personal car, and the purchase of 46 cattle during Hari Raya Aidiladha, had found reasonable evidence to prosecute Tan Sri Khalid for misuse of power. Former Selangor Menteri Besar Khir Toyo also found it opportune to ride along on the claim that Tan Sri Khalid did misuse his powers.

This will be an interesting case to watch, as it involved the boss of MACC, who in this instant was seen to have acted beyond his powers and function, by uttering a statement that ‘inferred a judgment’ over a case under his investigation, which rightly is the exclusive powers and functions of the Attorney General.

I am quite sure Datuk Ahmad Said knows the limits of his powers, and that his function is merely to conduct an investigation to determine the facts of a case. Should the investigation finds that there is a case to answer, it is then referred to the Attorney General office who will then decide whether to proceed with the case or otherwise. Certainly, it is not Datuk Ahmad Said who is to decide or to infer whether there is a case to answer or otherwise.

I am also watching keenly whether Tan Sri Khalid will take a similar action on Khir Toyo, who was the person to have blown the case out of proportion, and for MACC to have acted in a flash over this case. I am just wondering whether MACC would want to do the same for the many cases of abuse of power by Khir Toyo, that is presently being investigated by the Selangor state government.

And surely, if one were to dig into the affairs of each and every state governments, one will surely find some element of abuse by state officials and including that of the Menteri Besar. If we were to continue doing this, I am quite sure the MACC officers will not be able to get enough sleep.

KHIR TOYO'S PNSB BANK

More revealation on Khir Toyo in the on-going Selcat hearing. This guy who was Selangor's Menteri Besar certainly thinks that Permodalan Negeri Selangor Berhad (PNSB) is his personal bank, and he can just withdraw any amount he needs for his personal use. And how stupid could PNSB be, to allow Khir Toyo to take whatever he wants. Isn't this robbery in broad daylight?

Mind you, in 2004, Khir Toyo was on an all expense paid holiday to France and Morocco with his family and including a maid, and the bill came up to a stunning RM 1 million. It wasn't enough that his wife and including other members of Balkis had a jolly good all expense paid holiday trip to Disney land and Australia, paid for by Khir Toyo's PNSB bank. You know how many poor and hungry families can be fed with the amount of money he and his family spend on holidays? Khir may not have noticed beggers running around in Klang, and I don't blame him for that because he could hardly see anything outside his heavily tinted car windows.

Enough is enough Mr. Khir Toyo, and how are you going to answer all these misdeeds of yours to the people of Selangor, and including my kampung folks from Ulu Langat? And shame on you for having brought out a trivial case on Khalid Ibrahim. At least Khalid Ibrahim did not steal the cows and eat it all himself. He gave it all to others, and this is a gracious and honourable act; not thievery.

For all the misdeeds that you and your wife had done, you deserve to loose the UMNO Youth party elections recently. And you don't even deserve to be elected the ADUN of your constituency. Certainly, the voters of Ulu Langat no longer needs you, and should you decided to visit us, we will be pleased to present you with a broom.

EX MENTERI BESAR TURNED PROTESTER

What the hack is he doing in Penang? Does he not have better things to do in his own home state? Don't tell me that since his ouster as the Menteri Besar, he has now acquired a new profession i.e. a protester. Why don't he just organised a protest in his own state, rather than do it in another state? Does he think that by being a champion among the protesters, he will be gaining more points in the elections for the Ketua Pemuda during the up-coming UMNO general assembly? Does he not know that there is already an on-going police investigation on the person that he wants to protest? And as a former Menteri Besar, he should know better the laws relating to what constitutes an illegal assembly.

The person that I am referring to is former Menteri Besar Selangor Khir Toyo, who was detained for police questioning and later released for being in an illegal assembly to protest against politician Karpal Singh, held in Penang Friday 13, 2009.. The assembly he claimed “was to hand-over to Karpal Singh a letter indicating our (UMNO Penang) displeasure over his recent threat to sue the Sultan of Perak”.

As a thoroughbred Selangorean myself, I think Khir Toyo as a state assemblyman had better confined his activities in Selangor. There are many things to be done, one of which is to keep a close watch on the activities of the present state government under Khalid Ibrahim. Wasn't he the person who had supported an allegation that Khalid Ibrahim had abused state funds to purchased cattle for slaughter during Hari Raya korban? And wasn't he also the person who had brought up the issue of Khalid Ibrahim using a Toyota Lexus for personal use, purchased through state funds? And what about the issue of Kandang Babi in Selangor? He had better monitor this.

Surely, I agree that Khir Toyo should be keeping a watch of any corrupt practice by the present state government, but please, not for the wrong reason.

Khir Toyo, I gave you my had respect when you proclaimed Selangor as a developed state during your time as the Menteri Besar. But I lost some respect for you when I am told that you favoured Selangorean of Javanese origin to be in your inner circle. I, being of Minangkabau heritage will surely be allowed only on the periphery.

And it is no surprise that during Khir Toyo's tenure as Menteri Besar, the Ulu Langat parliamentry constituency (my district of origin) was held by a Malaysian Javanese. Wasn't he able to find a suitable Melayu of Minangkabau origin in the district?
