LOYALTY A PLEDGE ON PAPER – A NEW UMNO INVENTION

Why need a loyalty pledge on paper for all UMNO leaders and elected representatives? This was a proposal by Mukhriz Mahathir announced in Kodiang, Alor Setar recently when he said, “Saya harap setiap orang (pemimpin dan wakil rakyat UMNO) menandatangan akujanji bagi membuktikan mereka mengutamakan kepentingan parti, menyokong, berkerjasama dan kerja keras bagi memastikan kemenangan calon yang terpilih”.

This has never been done before in UMNO’s 60 odd years history, and why has it to be done now? The only logical answer that I can think of is that UNMO no longer trust its members, and even if the loyalty pledge is made, does that guarantee the person honors his pledge? Now, if that person reneged on the pledge, what action can the party take? UMNO cannot send the person to prison; can they? The least that UMNO can do is to suspend or sack the person, but doing this may incur the wrath of some party quarters itself and that isn’t good for the party. This has occurred to the party before where loyalists to the person being punished has shied away from the party or even demonstrated against the party. UMNO surely does not want a repeat of the 2008 elections – do they?

Now, it looks like UMNO is showing signs of desperation and lacking in ideas. By adopting a loyalty pledge is akin to someone who wants to join a secret society. I am told that all adherents of the Free Mason have to sign a loyalty pledge and I hope this idea isn’t derived from that. The idea of a loyalty pledge on paper sounds so absurd that it would appear that no party member can be trusted, and that members are forced to prove their loyalty by committing it on a piece of document. I just wonder what would be the wordings of the pledge.

If I were an UMNO elected representative, I would certainly object to this kind of proposal if it was forced upon me. It degrades and questions my integrity. I do not know the reaction of the present crop of UMNO members who are by and large mere followers; the yes men so to speak. This is the UMNO of the new millennium where loyalty has to be demanded off its members which are normally accompanied by promises of material gains. Isn’t this the reason why there has always been so much of infighting among members even for a mediocre post like a Ketua Cawangan? I did not say this – it was told to me by some UMNO members, and I am not surprised.

For Mukhriz Mahathir to have come with the proposal surprises me, for I have all along perceive him to be a reformer. Reformer he is, but for the wrong purpose. This proposal has changed my perception of Mukhriz Mahathir since, and I begin to imagine what else he can do to further unveil the inherent weaknesses of his leadership within the party. UMNO, as I knew it, was build upon trust and unquestioned loyalty of its members towards the party (not to individuals) and I think this is no longer true today.

Dato, never in its history has Umno ever needed its elected representatives to sign a pledge of loyalty.Either Mukhriz knows something that the public doesn't or he is not a very smart man.

Umno used to be the dominant party loaded with abundant cash, which did a lot of trading of two legged frogs that doesn't croak.Maybe this time around if it is a hung parliament, they expect the jumping froggies to be from their party.

Dato, this loyalty pledge or prevention of frog leaping is just a piece of paper that does not hold water in the court of law.At least for the opposition.DAP has their elected representatives signed it.But when they leap frogged, the DAP went to court and lost.

Maybe for Umno it is different. After all they have all the public institutions under their thump.Umno is in a panic mode, that is why it is desperate and will take whatever actions to help it stay in power.

One of their senior ministers, caught in the cow's scandal is cooked.Hishamuddin has shown that he is weak when refusing to take action against one of their own.Not a very winnable candidate.
Too lembak. Mr Moo's corrupted past is catching up with him. They are surfacing now, just in time for the elections.More to come.

Khairy is unelectable, according to Umno youth assisant secretary. So is Isa Samad.Minister of Misinformation is not a winnable candidate as he cannot keep his zippers zipped. The Defence Minister is not qualified as he cannot do his maths. And the list goes on.But one thing is for sure, this will be the toughest GE for Umno.

Dato,
This is just absurd by forcing and worst of all demanding loyalty from its members. If I am an UMNO member(thank God I am not one) I will definately feel insulted.Where is UMNO heading? They don't even trust their leaders and 'foot-soldiers' and has to go to the extend to demand their loyalty on paper. With such a situation coming up in view of the GE13,UMNO is really in trouble. As I sense it some leaders knows that many so-called UMNO warloards are traitors and silent supporters of Anwar Ibrahim. That is also one of the reasons UMNO in its recent Convention went all out to bash the Opposition especially Anwar Ibrahim. AI is really a 'pain in the ass' for UMNOputras and 'mati-mati' they have to convict him and sent AI to prison before the GE13. UMNOputras are desperate and fearful of the Opposition if not such a proposal would not have come to mind. If GE13 is to be played on a level 'playing-field' UMNO is a goner for sure. It won't be a hung Parliament as I can feel 'the pulse of the nation' calling for change.

Dato',

Mukhriz Mahathir has never come across as an intelligent person. He is no different from Najib and Hishamuddin, both of whom rode on the names of the fathers. Mukhriz is where he is solely on his father's name. These so-called leaders riding high on their fathers name is the reason why UMNO has degraded to what it is today.......a retarded organization filled with people who are afraid of their own shadows and deeply suspicious of each other.

Mukhriz should have gone one step further with his loyalty pledge in writing. He should have asked the UMNO members to sign the pledge with their blood. Those members who use more blood to sign the pledge will be deem to be more loyal than others who sign with just a single drop of blood. Those who cut their wrists and jugular veins will obviously be deemed as eternally loyal to the party. We may then see 3 million dead UMNO members proving once and for all that all the 3 million members are indeed externally loyal to UMNO and its president.

There is no better test than the above to determine the members loyalty to UMNO and its president.

Dato I always say this to my friends that history will always repeat. The UMNO party is not confident with their members and afraid they will jump when times comes. This is what UMNO have done to other party members to buy over them in order to rule the states like Sabah and Perak before this. What they have done is going to take place in UMNO for the comming election and that is one of the reasons they need to have the akujanji. Even P Ramlee movie have indicated in Anak Ku Sazali that when you over pamper and feed someone and there will be a day he is going to retaliate.

Dato,
This Mukhriz fellow has pea brains between his feet.Flying 'high' on the Mamak Kutty's label. Why don't he insist that all UMNO members practise the initiation ceremony as carried out by the Chinese Secret Society and throw in a white cockerel and a chopper to complete the whole scenerio. I don't mind donating the chopper and the white cockerel and some bandages just in case they missed chopping the cockerel and chop themselves. What rubbish is this fellow talking. As GE13 draws near everyone in UMNO gets the cold shivers like being infected with malaria parasites. This guy is a real idiot and he forgot today we are in the 2011. Real clown demanding for 'blind loyalty' and whatnot. Say sayonara to UMNOooooo!

What their fathers built the good ole sons will always destroy!

This is the nature of things!

Sons of rich tycoons never worked their whole life.

Born with golden spoons!
They only know how to spend and when all is spent, they ask for MORE!
The rich never work till they DIE!

Poor souls work all their life till they DIE!
That makes the difference between a good son and a really bad ONE.

This world is full of real living examples of good sons and real BAD ONES!

Please make a pick!

I think the more important thing that should have been imposed on all UMNO high ranking leadership, ministers, MPs and Aduns is the asset declaration and this is especially for Mukhriz and his family members (and that means TDM too).

A pledge of loyalty by UMNO members is useless to the rakyat as a whole. And more to the point, UMNO have been breaking promises, pledges even Federal agreement all this while and it's ironic that now UMNO wants its member to make promises and pledges (and honor it as well?). A pirate Captain is asking his band of pirate to swear allegiance and loyalty??? Really, Mukhriz? You are asking corrupt people to be honorable? Yeah right! That's like saying NFC buying a condo is part and parcel of it's business plan of rearing cows! That confirms it! He is as stupid as he looks!

Nick.

Salam Dato'

What a shame for a leader to ask his members to sign an "akujanji" towards seeking their loyalty.

It is just like forcing people to respect you when respect is something to be earned.

More a less mcm mengugut ajer. After you sign the stupid akujanji, you are obligated. You betray ajer, they will push you hard to the wall with assistance from judges in our monkey courts.

Above all, SHAME ON YOU UMporNO. Don't you have better ideas to gain loyalty from your members?

A small correction please.

Freemasons are just, upright and free men of matured age, sound judgement and strict morals. How is one known to be a Mason - by the regularity of his initiation, repeated trials and approbations, and a readiness at all times to undergo an examination when properly called upon.

There has never been any written pledge of any kind required to be a Freemason. A Freemason's word is his bond.

Another myth is that Freemasonry is a secret society. Freemasons have a lot of secrets but are far from being a secret society. They have alot of rituals that are secrets and are guarded jealously. The world most generous charity organisation is the Freemasonry. Millions are donated worldwide on a daily basis. I wear my Freemason badge proudly and openly. I will never imposed my Mason's beliefs on anyone but happy to explain what we are about. We are not much different to the Rotary and Lion clubs but we have secret rituals where they don't (in fact I believe the Lion Club was a spun off from Freemasonry because their members did not like to observe the rituals).

Freemasonry is universal and we have all types in the Freemasonry brotherhood. There are christian, muslim, jewish, buddhist, Hindus, etc Masons world wide. You would be surprised who are Freemasons in Malaysia. They come from all walks of life and at a Lodge, there is no life ranks. All royalties, professionals (judges, etc) and people of high status are treated the same as the common man. Freemasons are brothers by choice.

I wanted to set the record straight. Thank you for the opportunity.

A Freemason

Dear Freemason,

Please accept my sincere apology if I have been wrong in my statement. I stand to be corrected at anytime by anyone.

Dato

There is no need to apologise. I was glad to be given the opportunity to clarify.

Most people are ignorant (by this word, I don't mean stupid but unaware) of Freemasonry and because of the secret rituals, Freemasonry is a system of morality veiled in allegory and illustrated by symbols. Therefore I don't blame people for having the wrong impressions.

Dato, if I may say so, would make an excellent Freemason and I would be proud to call you Brother Arshad. You stand for everything every Freemason strives for, honesty and justice amongst other things. For that as an ex-Military man myself, I salute you.
